Random crashs under debian testing

AS: Really sorry if you get this message twice. I first posted it
04.03.2006 10:53, but saw that that my original message had not been
distributed over usenet outside of my provider. So I post it again
hoping for better luck.

Hi,

Since a few weeks (looks like to me latest KDE upgrade, but could be
unrelated), I experience crashed of my Debian testing machine. About one
per week, if not more.

Sorry for the length of this message, but I wanted to give you as much
information as I could.

SOME GENERIC REMARKS
====================

- CRASH NEVER OCCURS WHEN THE MACHINE IS UNATTENDED (mine is up 24/24)
or in remote text access (I do remote backups, have a CVS server on it,
and such: never crashed during that kind of operations).

- IT USUALLY CRASH WHEN OR JUST AFTER I SWITCH X SESSION

- MODIFICATION IN XSESSION HANDLING DUE TO KDM UPGRADE
A few weeks ago, I had an Xsession file as follow (I use kdm):
# cat /etc/kde3/kdm/Xservers
[ removing comment lines]
:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg :0 vt7 -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp
:1 local /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg :1 vt8 -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp
:2 local /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg :2 vt9 -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp
:3 local /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg :3 vt10 -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp  -config
/etc/X11/xorg-video.conf

When latest kdm version arrived, this didn't worked any more, and I
added in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc:
StaticServers=:0,:1,:2
(I don't know yet how to specify a different config file for the server).
-> Crashes never occurred before that change (of course I cant swear
that the cause is related to this).

SYMPTOMS BEFORE CRASHES
=======================

 - Text consoles becomes unreadable. Either the screen is black, only
cursor shown, or strange graphics in black/gray/white filling the
screen. In both case, except of the display, the terminal seems to be
functionals.
 - Pixmap under X11 are sometimes filled with random data found in
memory. Eg. the KDE bar is filled with what looks like to be some
Firefox page displayed some time ago.

 - When switching session (by alt-ctrl-fn) a temporary black screen
appears (not unusual) but there is blue-green dotted cursor as wide as
the screen that can be moved with the mouse. Sometimes the crash occurs
on that screen.

 -> Those symptoms can last pretty long before a crash occurs: as I'm
writing this message, the text console are black again.

LOGS TRACES LEFT AFTER REBOOT
=============================

I didn't had much in the logs on previous crashes, but last one let good
traces, I cant interpret them, but maybe some can.
