 Hi Vegard.

        Are you behind a firewall with the debian install and is this fire 
wall on a dsl modem router ? If so you will need to open the port range  6881 
- 6889 on the fire wall and then port forward these open ports to the box you 
are using. I find its best to have the box on a static ip address. you can 
use etherconf to change the machine ip setup. all so you would be better of 
installing bittornado-gui bittornado
