build kernel for woody system on sid system without chroot environment?

Hi,

I'd like to build a kernel for a (slow) Woody system on a (much faster) sid
system.

Should I create a woody chroot environment on my fast system just to build
the kernel (that's what I've always done), or can I build a kernel+modules
for a woody system directly in a sid environment without getting any
library/linking/dependencies/gcc version/etc problems?
