I've got a laptop I'm trying to get alsa set up on.

alsaconf detected my onboard intel sound device and
added an entry for snd-intel8x0 to /etc/modutils/alsa-base.

But udev is not creating the sound devices I need on boot.

And here's an lsmod | grep snd:

Were they loaded at bootup, or did you have to manually load them?

They were loaded on bootup.

Then udev should have created the devices. What is the output of
"ls /etc/udev" and "ls -l /etc/udev/rules.d"?

Adam

rbento@rbento1204:rbento$ ls /etc/udev/

cdsymlinks.conf devfs.rules permissions.d simple-cd-aliases.rules
compat-full.rules hal.rules rules.d udev.conf

rbento@rbento1204:rbento$ ls -l /etc/udev/rules.d/
