Most likely, the partition table of the pen is read when the device is
*accessed* for the first time (by the 'fdisk' command), at which point
/dev/sda1 gets created.
The solution is to access the device first (e.g. by typing 'fdisk -l
/dev/sda' and then mount /dev/sda1.
