This has been discussed on debian-devel several times.  There have also
been some proposals on how to change the package control file format to
accomodate this.  Hint: this will require some non-trivial changes.

In short, once the specifics get hammered out, it will likely happen.
Not sure if it will make it in time for the Etch release, but it will
happen eventually.
