Making kaffeine/xine play audio properly

Hi,

I installed kaffeine/xine to play audio CDs and some web radios but I
just can't get them to work properly. I'm hitting the following problems:

- Audio CDs play but there's a kind of cracking/scratching noise all
along, like when you listen to scratched vynil records. There's no
noise when I listen to the same CDs with kscd.
- real stream audio comes out garbled. I noticed this particularly with
  rtsp://128.59.222.11:554/broadcast/wkcr.rm. This doesn't happen with
  MP3 streams.

I had a look at xine's settings but honestly couldn't figure out which
settings might be tweaked to solve the above problems. I did change
buffers.audio_num_buffers, doubling it from 230 to 460. This looked
promising, but the problems persisted.

Does anybody know of any documents that describe how to tune kaffeine/xine ?

Thanks in advance for your help
Paulo
