I don't think you can keep the windows installer from overwriting the
MBR. So I don't think it matters what boot loader you are using in that
respect. So use whichever bootloader is easiest for you to repair after
the XP inst. I could be wrong, usually I am setting up linux parts
after installing windows. So wait for other responses to your thread if
you don't like my answer.
Whatever you do I recommend taking images of your linux parts before you
do the windows install. And taking an image of your fresh XP install
will save you this trouble in the future and save you time on applying
updates.
I wonder cuz I need to reinstall my XP and I
have my Linux running in other partitions of the same disk. The
problem is that windows takes over the whole system and think I won't
be able to boot my Linux partition after windows reinstallation. And
that...of course, is what I don't wanna see!
Should I run a rescue disk if it happens? Nowadays, I'm using lilo but
if Grub works like I would like to I could change the boot manager.
Please, if there is any doubt about my question, let me know.

to boot just about everything. Just install Grub into MBR of the whole
disk (make rescue boot floppy before) and you can boot Linux,
Windows,...with nice menu enviroment, with default boot after some time.
Look in to the manual of the Grub for details. Grub is very powerfull,
you can have even simple shell before boot and setup booting from
command line. Actualy menu in which you choose OS to be booted is just
extention.
If you do not wont to experiment with MBR of the whole disk (witch is
risky), install Grub on the floppy and experiment there.
