you should take the i386 flavor of Debian. I recomend you to use Sarge
becouse it is newer.

You can also try some LiveCD as Knoppix or Ubuntu, and check which
hardware did it detect. This can help you later in installing Debian. If
it works you can also install LiveCD to hard disk.
