Tunnel device problems on Sparc

Hi,

I'm trying to setup an OpenVPN connection from a Sun machine running Sarge to another, running Sarge on i386. For some reason, the client machine seems unable to allocate a tun / tap device dynamically. I even installed the uml-utilities packake and tested it with the tunctl tool, here is the output:

ukp16823 bootc # tunctl
Set '' persistent and owned by uid 0

Has anyone seen this before?

Before anyone asks, I have the tun module compiled as a kernel module, and loaded in using modprobe. My kernel is a vanilla 2.4.29 (the Debian kernels didn't boot, and 2.6 isn't stable on Sparc). Could compiling it into the kernel help?

Many thanks,
Chris
