Although it's true that most DRM solutions are
proprietary, a number of DRM-related companies have
open sourced their code in the past few years, the
most prominent example being Helix from RealNetworks.
Many of the components of Helix are available under
public and/or community license (see
http://helixcommunity.org). I wonder if the
helix-player debian package contains any source code
for DRM...
