Generally, if you can get into the system (via rescue environment, or
bootable live linux cd) you could mount the "/" and "/boot"
partitions... chroot into the "/" partition, and then run the
'/sbin/lilo' binary, which will read '/etc/lilo.conf' and rewrite your
MBR.
In most cases, this is what works for me.
