apt-get question

Does any way exist to adjust apt-get so that both suggested and recommended packages will be installed? Debian so far as I know doesn't append these files if not installed to any log file so it's not like there's an option to install these later if you don't manage to remember the names. In the case of basic security packages for debian sooner or later suggested and recommended packages run into loads of x-windows stuff and at least one of them is a virtual package so you make a selection of a list of candidates if candidates exist. If apt-get could be configured so a package that can't download is selected with several other packages that can download maybe let the user know apt-get-errors.log has just been updated but continue on with the downloads that can be done. The package configuration screens cover up the suggessted packages and recommended packages so if those screens come up you don't know what was recommended or suggested after configuring the first package.
