Hi Spencer, It's better to send replies to the list, instead of replying to people personally - unless it really is meant personal of course, in which case just say so. A reply to the list means that others can learn as well. Some packages have a version number in there name. Especially with libraries or other packages where you sometimes want two versions to exist together. See for example python. On my system: $ dpkg -l python2.[012345] Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-=====================-=====================-========================================================== ii python2.1 2.1.3-27 An interactive high-level object-oriented language (versio ii python2.2 2.2.3dfsg-1 An interactive high-level object-oriented language (versio ii python2.3 2.3.4-19 An interactive high-level object-oriented language (versio pn python2.4 <none> (no description available) Note that e.g. package name python2.3 still has a version number: 2.3.4-19. I'm not quite sure why I have three python versions, but everything runs just fine. :) -- Maurits van Rees | http://maurits.vanrees.org/ [Dutch/Nederlands] Public GnuPG key: keyserver.net ID 0x1735C5C2 "Let your advance worrying become advance thinking and planning." - Winston Churchill
