Although I ran woody on my G4 for a few months, I didn't manage to get
full functionality (although networking wasn't a problem) until I
upgraded to sid. More recently I did a fresh install on a separate
partition using the sarge d-i rc2 installer and more or less everything
worked out of the box.

So you could upgrade to sarge to see if it fixes it or do a fresh
install using the sarge installer.

However, it sounds as though it could be a dodgy NIC.
Can you ping localhost?
Can you ping other machines?

What is the output of /etc/network/interfaces?
