I second serial console. Without a hardware support (e.g. openboot on a
sparc and I think mac's have them?) you'll have to make do with the
kernel serial console.

Otherwise if you rely on ssh access or even any form of networking and
your networking goes haywire (easy to do - firewall scripts etc.) you're
stuffed.
