you might try burning with cdrecord. on sarge with a 2.4.x kernel 
cdrecord works excellent if you tell cdrecord to burn with  
<dev="ATAPI:x,y,z"      xyz you can, of course, find with
cdrecord dev=ATAPI -scanbus
