Debian (Woody) bf2.4 network card problem
So,
I've installed bf2.4 on my machine, but it's having problems seeing my 3c59x
network card.
If I run /sbin/modprobe 3c59x I get:
/lib/modules/2.4.18-bf2.4/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o: init_module: No such
device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ paramters.
I have tried adding:
alias eth0 modulename
to /etc/modutils/aliases and run update-modules - then run
/etc/init.d/networking start - but to no avail.
The file /lib/modules/2.4.18-bf2.4/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o exists - I've
checked.
There's nothing wrong with the network card as this worked on this machine
with an idepci flavour of debian. In that idepci flavour:
1. dmesg shows:
3c59x.c 18Feb01 Donald Becker and others
http://www.scyld.com/network/vortex.ht
eth0: Lite-On 82c168 PNIC rev 32 at 0xe800, 00:A0:CC:D3:69:3E, IRQ 11.
eth0: MII transceiver #1 config 3000 status 7829 advertising 01e1.
eth0: Setting full-duplex based on MII#1 link partner capability of 4461.
2. .o file found in:
/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/3c59x.o
3. modconf shows a list matching contents of
/lib/modules/2.2.20-idepci/net/
For 3c59x modconf shows: 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597)
'Vortex/Boomerang/C'
I've tried running modconf, tried telling it to load this module into the
kernel i.e. the 3c59x module - but I get the same error as ifI run
/sbin/modprobe 3c59x
Anyone any ideas how I can get this network card working?
Thanks, Andrew.
