make-kpkg problem

Hello all,
One generic problem. I use make-kpkg to recompile kernels and get my kernel images in .deb . Now everytime the kernel image is created, make-kpkg seems to clean up the build directory. If I missed something, I'm supposed to start of from the very beginning. Is there any option to pass on to make-kpkg, telling it not to clean the build directory while it creates the kernel_image file.
