If you have the correct Cups packages installed, at least cupsys and
cupsys-client but i suggest to check if you have cupsys-bsd
cupsys-driver-gimpprint and cupsys-driver-gimpprint-data, and to
configure the printer in the easy way is to open your browser to
http://localhost:631 and proceed from there.

Not all the options are available via the web interface, but for a
simple scenario, like a printer attached directly to a pc, is enough.

For parallel interface, look if the kernel module is loaded without
error messages, and IIRC, your user need to be in the "lp" group to
use the printer...
