it means the kernel you are booting cannot find oyur / partition
on /dev/sda5
ls -la /dev/sd* | grep 08
when the lilo or grub prompt comes up you have to tell it
manually where / is lcoated
lilo# linux-2.4.26 root=/dev/sda5
also make sure the kernel has scsi support for your scsi card
or you will need to make a initrd file
