L creates a link
D creates a directory
M creates device nodes using /sbin/MAKEDEV
Check /etc/init.d/udev for more info. Especially the make_extra_nodes()
function.
It's been awhile since I synced up with the debian packages (I'm using
the udev originals), so I'm not sure how much has changed (if any).
