Once you've copied the data back onto the new drive just boot from a rescue disc or a Debian install disc and re-run lilo. In the case of the Debian install disc (Woody), you'll want to do either: rescue root=/dev/yourrootpartition or rescbf24 root=/dev/yourrootpartition Unless you've been using a 2.2 series kernel, I'd suggest using rescbf24. Once you're booted up (ignore any errors for now), just run lilo as root, take out the boot disc, and reboot. You should be back up and running in no time. p.s. I commend you for making regular backups. I recently had one of the drives in my RAID 0 array start acting up and almost lost all of my data.
