killing xsane

I got a 3Com HomeConnect USB cam to use with Debian. I ran xsane with
the cam plugged in.

The first xsane dialog came up - the one while it scans for devices, or
maybe the one with the report it can't find any with two buttons filling
it. But this time it has no buttons.

And it won't go away. ps ax sees it - kill 'pid' doesn't get rid of
it. 'killall xsane' won't get rid of it.

'rmmod vicam' or 'rmmod videodev' report 'busy' and won't remove the
modules.

I shut down, then powered back on. It's there. I can minimze it, move
the window.

How is this possible? What can I do?

Thanks,
Bret
