Extending on that, last I had heard (not Hurd) about Linux 2.5, IDE was still not complete, and had been largely rewritten from scratch at certain points, and it is still listed on the TODO list as needing work. If you have IDE drives, that should be a show stopper for general use itself. -- Mark L.
