Gnome (and KDE ?) aoos and classix X command line argumnets?

 Iwant to use one or 2 Gnome (or perhaps KDE) based apps (EG Gnotepad) in
 an environemnt based upon a lightwight window manager, such as twm.

 However, at least the Gnome apps), seem to not understand the classix X
 argumnets (as documneted in the X man page), such as -iconic, and
 -geometry.

 Is there a way to fix this?
