problem with images-1.20/root.bin

I'd like to install woody in a pc with 5 1/4 floppy drive, but
the root floppy image
(dists/woody/main/disks-i386/current/images-1.20/root.bin)
seems to be bad.
(images-1.44/root.bin is ok, and it's a gzipped ext2 image)
It seems as images-1.20/root.bin should be gzipped but it isn't.
Does anybody else had noted this ?
What can I do to install woody in the target machine ? (500 mb HDD, 5 1/4
FD, Mitsumi 1x CD-ROM)
Can I fit the 3 1/2 images in the 5 1/4 disks ? (I've already done that,
with rescue.bin and root.bin; the system boots from rescue.bin but can't
recognize the strange format of disk with root.bin (18 sectors instead
of 15)
TIA...
