I have this exact same scanner and, having applied the patch and  a year ago applied the patches, and edited the kernel driver in order to get it running...
It wasn't worth it. The SANE capabilities are limited, and while the documentation mentions problem with colors, I found the scans themselves to be distorted......this from a scanner that runs beautifully with Windows. My suggestion would be to look for a windows user who has a more Linux-friendly scanner, and offer a trade.
