Necessarily need not be.

I really do not know what options you pass on to cdrecord while burning
from the image. Switch on the `driveropts=burnfree' option to
cdrecord. Note the FIFO fill percentage towards the end. It should be
near-abouts 90-95%
Were the original audio tracks noisy ? Use a `noise nulling'

Yamaha drives are good but I find them a bit costly. Acer OEM drives
are doing a fine job, they are cheap too and come with a decent buffer
size.
