As soon as you said "properly cared for" you opened yourself up to me
saying that properly cared for CD-ROM media will outlive vinyl.  (If
we bring in the early manufacturing problems with glue and oxidation
then we also must being in early vinyl problems as well.)  At the same
point of maturity in the manufacturing process they both are stable
media while stored.

However, I think you will have a hard time listening to your vinyl
while swimming.  But the digital formats are very portable.  And it is
much easier to scratch a record than a CD.  And a host of other pluses
and minuses.

Let's face it, you *like* vinyl.  There is no need to justify personal
preference.  And it is better not to try.
