GCC/G++ 3.1.1 on Woody

Hi

I'd like to install GCC/G++ 3.1.1 on my Woody system (Preferably in 
/usr/local, so it does not interfere with anything). Is it better to just 
compile it from sources off http://gcc.gnu.org/ or do I have other options?

P.S. I heard g++ 3.1.1 produced much faster binaries
