checking the trustdb

is there any way i can prevent this:

  fishbowl:~> gpg --edit-key xxxxxxxxx

  gpg: checking the trustdb
  gpg: checking at depth 0 signed=40 ot(-/q/n/m/f/u)=0/0/0/0/0/1
  gpg: checking at depth 1 signed=50 ot(-/q/n/m/f/u)=14/0/0/18/8/0
  gpg: checking at depth 2 signed=33 ot(-/q/n/m/f/u)=29/0/0/0/0/0
gpg: next trustdb check due at 2002-12-31

before i finally get to edit the key?

granted:

  fishbowl:~> gpg --list-keys | grep pub | wc -l
      673

it's a big keyring, but still. even though it says that the next check
is due on 31 december 2002, it keeps doing it over and over, even for
keys i have loaded just five minutes ago and which i am reloading now.

any clues?
