There's maybe a half-dozen common 'packages' that usually need
updated when jumping major kernel versions, ie 2.2 to 2.4. The
'pppd' package is definitely one of them... Check the README
file (I believe ... not at a linux box right now) that's in
the top level dir of the kernel source files.
