i have not used it on debian in a while but i do use it on
freebsd and solaris/x86. it performs quite well for the video cards
i have used. it is a full replacement for xfree i believe. but
you can opt to only install certain parts of it if i remember right.
i think it does a good job at preserving the old version of X which
makes uninstalling it pretty easy to.
just don't use their 3D drivers on debian they are not compadible.
