Inside your computer. There you can read the model of soundcard or chip.
With that info, you can read the Sound-HOWTO
<http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO/index.html> to see how to
configure it.


That's certainly a good option; nothing beats actually knowing what hardware you have in your box. However, since it's onboard, you can probably ascertain the info more easily by running "lspci". This will dump info on the various PCI-flavored devices in your box.

Once you know what sound card/chip you have, google for that chip and Debian, or look in the Debian Mail Archives, or post the info to this list and someone may be able to tell you 'xactly what'cher needin'.
