Little.

However for tools such as bootable GNU/Linux distributions (e.g.:
LNX-BBC or Knoppix -- http://www.lnx-bbc.org/ www.knopper.net/knoppix/),
having a known, minimum-standards, video mode, is a useful feature.

Point:  if you've got native support, use it.  If you need something and
you don't know what you've got, FB is there.
