Diskless server and single user mode

Hi,

I have a server machine running Woody that I like to put into a less
obtrusive location. My intention is to remote administer it from my other
machine via ssh.

Now certain problems, like filesystem repairs after a crash or power failure,
might require access in single user mode where ssh (and others) are not
available.

Is there a recommended solution for this situation?

(Maybe a serial line console?)

Many thanks for your help in advance!
best regards,
Balazs
