Re: Preferred video cards for 3D?



Thanks to everyone who pitched in an opinion, that was indeed what I was
after; the sort of input you just don't get from an HCL. :)

Based on that, I think we'll go with ATI.  My own experience with video
cards is pretty out of date these days; I still remember when a Voodoo
was the best you could do.

Given our needs for reliability and my own mistrust of closed code,
nVidia gets a black mark.  I don't have time to go hunting at nVidia's
web site the next time apt-get upgrade breaks compatibility with the
existing version of their kernel driver, and we /must/ keep these
machines patched up to date.  Performance is nice, but 24x7 reliability
is more important for our purposes.
