know what he's talking about here, well, we're doomed.

It happened to work. Formerly, security.debian.org and non-us.debian.org
were two role names for the same machine; when you have role names, it's
always better to use the right one.
Alternatively, use a mirror for non-US.

All the security updates go in the one location, which your first
sources.list line will find.
