Why should vmlinuz point back to hda1? It should point back to a file,
not a device.

alpha:~> cp -auv /vmlinuz .
`/vmlinuz' -> `./vmlinuz'
alpha:~> file vmlinuz 
vmlinuz: broken symbolic link to boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-k7r2
