Disable IPv6 DNS lookups?

Hello,

I did a fresh install of woody.

whenever I try to telnet or ssh to some machine, the connect takes several
seconds - it seems the system is trying an AAAA DNS lookup on the target,
even if it is listed in /etc/hosts (and even for localhost!). I have order
hosts,bind in host.conf and the equivalent in nsswitch.conf.

How do I turn off IPv6 lookups?
