This is one of the right lists, since you are a user of debian;)
Another one to try might be the emu10k1 driver project list over at
sourceforge; I can't remember the URL offhand right now, I'll look it up
for you later.

I'm not sure what's happening in this particular case, but I also have a
SBLive and have problems with recording.  In my case, however, It
records at a very low level wwith enormous amounts of noise and
distortion.  I haven't tried it lately tho, so maybe support has
improved.
