date '+%a %b %e %Y' does not work from within crontab.

Should

    date '+%a %b %e %Y'

work from within crontab?

It work with sh -c.

The mail I get from the cron job is:

Subject: Cron <shaul@rakefet> date '+
X-Cron-Env: <SHELL=/bin/sh>
X-Cron-Env: <PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games>
X-Cron-Env: <HOME=/home/shaul>
X-Cron-Env: <LOGNAME=shaul>
Sender: CronDaemon <shaul@rakefet>
Date: Fri, 01 Mar 2002 20:39:02 +0200

/bin/sh: -c: line 1: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `''
/bin/sh: -c: line 2: syntax error: unexpected end of file
