Modify /etc/lilo.conf to support initrd's:

<lilo-snippet>
    image=/vmlinuz
            label=Linux
            read-only
    #       restricted
    #       alias=1
            initrd=/initrd.img
</lilo-snippet>

I'll try.

  apt-get install kernel-image-<version>-smp

Say "no" to messag about stopping. If no errors, reboot.
