"man apt-get" really would explain alot, specifically "-s"
and "-u".  One thing that "man apt-get" doesn't explain
is that "-u" can be used with "remove" as well as "install",
even though the manpage is pretty explicit that "-u" is only
for upgrading packages.

# apt-get -s -u remove gnome-core
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  balsa eeyes gnome-admin gnome-applets gnome-core gnome-games
  gnome-help gnome-media gnome-panel gnome-panel-data gnome-session
  gnome-think gnome-utils irssi-gnome nofgpg 
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 15 to remove and 0  not
upgraded.Remv balsa (1.2.4-2 Debian:testing)
Remv eeyes (1:0.3.12-4 Debian:testing)
