Be more specific.  For what protocols and/or actions.

For ppp dialup, modify these using 'pppconfig'.

You'll probably find what you're looking for under /etc/ppp/pap-secrets.

You can find all instances with:

   $ find /etc -type f -print0 | xargs -0 grep -l <password>

...you'll probably also find instances for your .fetchmail configuration
and possibly a newsserver configuration.
