Problem with wait/waitpid... can't install packages
I am trying again, since my last post got lost in
a mess of header munge...
I recently installed debian, and things were going
fine for a few weeks, but now I am having an odd issue
that seems to be affecting wait/waitpid.
When I try to do an apt-get install my install dies with:
Can't ignore signal CHLD, forcing to default.
dpkg-deb: wait for gzip -dc failed: No child processes
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/figlet_2.2-11_i386.deb (--unpack):
subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/figlet_2.2-11_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Now, I know the:
'Can't ignore signal CHLD, forcing to default.'
is from perl, which I am also getting from a suidperl script
I wrote for my system, but the:
'gzip -dc failed: No child processes'
makes me think this is bigger than just a perl problem.
Can someone point me in the right direction to try
to track this down... so far I have had no luck...
If I reboot the system I can install packages for a little
while, but then the problem resurfaces after a short while...
Thanks - Ant
