Please check again.  I just installed it few days ago:

I asked this issue in this ML and had interesting responses.

1. fstab to contain "ext3,ext2" as entry
2. make a link with name "/sbin/fsck.ext3,ext2"

If you wonder what I am talking: check kernel chapter of "Debian
reference", PLEASE.  There I copied result of discussion under EXT3
