Wondering if debian-users can help me out.  Contrary to what 
Eric suggests neither 
> apt-get remove pkgname
> or
> apt-get --purge remove pkgname (to purge the old config files)

removes the packages if there are dependencies.  Is there a way 
to have apt or another tool take care of that?
