Francois,

I had this problem too.  To fix it remove all the references to pcmcia in 
rc?.d and reboot.  Then upgrade to the latest PCMCIA code and change
all references to the Intel controller in the PCMCIA control files to 
yenta_socket (in /etc/default/pcmcia).  Then it works.
